Accumulation of credits

The process of collecting credit points which are acquired through learning content. These requirements are an integral part of achieving an existing qualification.

Certification

The process by which an apprentice receives a formal document from an authorised institution confirming the achieved qualification.

Formal learning

Learning that is acquired through participation in a learning programme or an institution, accompanied by a degree.

Non-formal education

In-company organised learning which is not provided by a school and which can lead to the completion of a qualification.

Learning content

The skills acquired in the learning process: Knowledge, skills and social competences.

European Qualification Frameworks for lifelong learning (EQF)

The EU set up a system through which national qualifications can be referenced and compared to each other.

Social skills

The ability to further develop one's own abilities and independent thinking in the professional and social area. This includes responsible participation in professional life and in society, also with regard to moral and ethical behaviour.

National qualification system

The whole system of processes required to build, award and ensure the quality of qualifications.

Registered qualifications

Qualifications where the achieved result of the learning content has been assessed and approved by an authorised authority/institution. Registered qualifications in Liechtenstein concern all formal educational qualifications in apprenticeships.

Credit recognition

The recognition of learning content by a responsible authority/institution.

Descriptors

A general description of requirements by the parameters knowledge, skills and social competence that belong to a qualification level.

Informal learning

To achieve knowledge, skills and competences through a range of activities outside of structured forms of learning/teaching.

Abilities "Skills"

The ability to perform tasks and solve problems in a working or learning environment.

Recognition of qualifications

Recognition of formally acquired qualifications abroad by an authorised institution.

Validation

A multi-stage process to ensure that competences for a qualification have actually been acquired. Validation leads to certification.

Knowledge

A bouquet of descriptions of facts, foundations, theories and practices acquired during the learning and teaching process.
